I’m bored,
husband thinking to himself. What about you wife, asks the husband. What do you
suggest, answers the wife with a question? We can go to see a see local
performance on stage adjacent to the synagogue, suggests the husband. What is
the play called, replies the wife? Mankind, answers the husband. Let’s go, in
return answers the wife. Did we get here in time, asks the wife? Just in time,
we shall sit right of the stage, answers the husband? Okay, retorts the wife.
Welcome to this performance of mankind, says the stage manager. Image of God is
not a dream begins the performer; Give us purpose and being; Vision is not our
given light; But granted us to receive and glean.
What humble pleasure hand in toil; flower in bed,
the rooted tree, grass eating beast living on this soil. One day in seven to
rest; to vacation in in our pleasant station, this is no jest; to give your
morrow best. Upon my breast is this scene; A radiant dream; Of a better half I
do glean; A beautiful woman betrothed, None other can lean; But upon this daily
stream. Concerning our ruin continues the performer. For our own sake the light
was turned into night. Because in deed this phrase we say, “might does make
right”, One’s life will not be full of strife. Upon this course we turn none of
us did earn, our life’s lesson we must learn; Without the Potter’s revelation
dust we are an in ash we remain; for none of it is our concern. If we be
condemned is there a way out of this, mentions the performer. By the free will
of God alone and by this Sheep’s garment thou art LORD of armies. You chose one
goat to destroy by flame the other or be set free. By the secret council Zion
was built; Thou power divine good news is released among men. Good Shepherd art
thou and you our hiding place which is plenty deep. By thy spoken word He chose
to manifest. By dialogue allows your chosen ones aid and comfort, Our life is
filled with strife. By thou grace divine your enemies no you not. By conspiracy
they believe your defeat at hand you cornered them instead, You have chosen
them to be a stones throws away from eternal damnation. Who are they, asks
rhetorically the performer? The Triune God own chosen one’s, answers the
performer. Good night as the performer bows. Good performance, mentions
husband. I agree, responds the wife.
I like the author used a play as a means to try convey his religious subject matter, and the poems are a nice touch. I do not like that Evil wasn't any part of the story, as if it doesn't exist. I would really enjoy writing a response to this work with author's permission.
ReplyDeleteevil is part of it with this poem For our own sake the light was turned into night.
